Kwinana East GRDC Updates- Merredin

A fantastic turn out of nearly 100 people came along to the GRDC Updates held in Merredin at the end of February. A deluge of rain on the day helped bring the crowds in- along with an incredible line up of speakers.

Attendees had the opportunity to listen to a variety of speakers, with a mix of international and local speakers.

Highlights of the day included Craig Scanlan from DPIRD Merredin and his discussion on nutrient management in deep ripped soils and Dion Nicol, also from DPIRD Merredin, discussing the NVT resuts in wheat for 2019- with take aways and tips for 2020. Dion’s panel discussion with local growers Jayden Crook and Tony Murfit about the use of winter wheats in their programs was also very well received.

Roger Mandel from BASF’s discussion on pre and post emergent herbicide use was a highlight for the group, with his informative and educational presentation.

Joel Andrew, MapIQ and Nathan Craig from West Midlands Group discussed their findings in the current ripper gauge trial, of which one is being run at Doug McGinniss’s.

The feedback from attendees was great, as the day had run smoothly, and incorporated a variety of interesting and relevant speakers for the area.
